Jay’s Keeley Welch
The Jay Bulldogs softball team had some great strengths coming into the 2024 fall season. According to utility player Keeley Welch, the team has of the best defensive capabilities they have had in years, as well as a lot of power hitters throughout the lineup.
When describing her most and least serious teammates, Welch said:
“The person who keeps everyone laughing is Josie Youngblood and is there whenever you need a good laugh. Someone who is always serious would be Zariah Kingfisher.”
Welch said that her favorite subject in school is physiology, and her favorite teacher is Jeff Orr. The community at Jay High School is something Welch appreciates.
“The coaches are very involved with our schooling and our after school lives and will always do what they can for us and cheer us on in everything we do.”
Welch’s favorite memory so far was “watching coach Moore dance whenever we got on first base during a district game.”
Like many athletes, Welch has a pre-game routine that helps prepare her for taking the field.
“I listen to music to be able to get in the groove and to pump myself up and then I also pray to let everything I do be in God’s hands,” she said.
A quote that Welch keeps in mind on and off the field is from Sami Jo Watson: “You do your best and let God do the rest.”
After high school Welch wants to continue playing softball at the next level while she pursues a career in the medical field for physical therapy.
