Q&A with Welch’s Camryn Etzel – Softball Spotlight – Presented by Welch State Bank

Camryn Etzel

Welch High School

VYPE: Camryn, you’re a member of the varsity softball team at WHS, what is the team like this season?

Camryn Etzel: We are a young team this year, but we are getting better and gaining experience every game.

VYPE: Do you have a favorite festival to play or place to play?

CE: My favorite festival would have to be the Covington-Douglas festival because we would always play a night game and we got to spend the night down there.

VYPE: How do you prepare yourself to take the field?

CE: I prepare for competition by listening to Christian music and focusing on the game. I pitch most innings, but when I’m not pitching, I am at short stop.

VYPE: Which teammate keeps everyone laughing and who is the most serious?

CE: Nicole definitely keeps the team laughing and the most serious is Jaylee.

VYPE: What makes Welch HS a great place to be a student-athlete?

CE: At WHS everyone accepts that we are a small school, and everyone encourages students to be involved in as many extracurricular activities as possible.

VYPE: Do you have a favorite memory as a student-athlete?

CE: My favorite memory as an athlete at Welch would have to be winning districts after a four-hour championship game my freshman year alongside my sister!

VYPE: What is your favorite subject and who is your favorite teacher?

CE: My favorite subject in school is math, and my favorite teacher is Mr. Chenoweth.

VYPE: What is the best advice you have been given?

CE: The best advice I have ever received is “Control what you can control.”

VYPE: What are your plans for life after high school?
CE: After high school I have plans to go to college and hopefully one day become an anesthesiologist.
