When it comes to basketball Emma Zimmerman puts all her effort into playing the game she loves. Emma is a junior guard for the Lady Bruins at Bartlesville High School.
Basketball is a fast sport where things can change in seconds. The best advice she has ever been given is to “never give up when it gets hard because the hard is what shapes you,” says Emma, “always give it your all no matter what.”
We all know winning feels good but the strength to move forward during struggles is often overlooked. Working through rough patches, while maintaining a love of the game builds character. Emma stands strong with her team and is determined to keep making each year better. “We haven’t won a lot in the past so it would be cool to be really good this year,” she says.
Friendships are Emma’s favorite part of being on a team. Tough practices, road trips, and the competition of games build bonds bringing a team together. Emma cherishes her teammates and the friendships the game has given her.
“ ”Emma loves playing for the Lady Bruins, but she also has great memories of playing on AAU teams. She fondly recalls her past AAU teammates who pushed her to work hard while having a lot of fun together.
Emma’s dad got her into basketball when she was five. The person she is most inspired by is her mom. “She is always there for me no matter what she’s facing on her own,” said Emma.
The best coaches provide support and build better players. Emma wants to send a shoutout to coach Antonio for being this kind of coach to her.
One of Emma’s best basketball memories was winning their Frontenac Tournament last year. This exciting victory is one she will always remember sharing and celebrating with her team.
Her favorite food is tacos, and she would most enjoy spending her summer in Italy with her best friends.
