Dewey’s Zach Renfroe

By Trina Walker

Basketball is a game of opportunity. Zach Renfroe takes this lesson into his daily life. “Basketball has taught me to never let any opportunity go by and to always make sure to never take anything for granted,” he said.

Zach is a sophomore who plays point guard for Dewey High School. He is passionate about basketball. “I have worked so hard. I know that if things go wrong, I have worked enough to overcome those problems,” he said.

Representing Dewey as a team leader is important to Zach. Bringing leadership to a team bonds the players and leads to success. Zach wants to play a part in bringing that positive energy to his DHS team.

A team becomes a second family. “It is knowing that if you are on a really good, well-bonded team that they will always have your back on everything. My favorite teammate has to be my friend Kooper Crawford. He loves to get serious and play and he loves to work on his game as much as I do,” said Zach.

The inspiration to strive for greatness came from his dad. “My dad is my biggest supporter and helper. He showed me how to play and ever since I have been trying to make him proud. I love my sport. I have always played basketball. I loved it when I was a kid, but it wasn’t until my dad and I got really serious about being better at basketball that I fell in love with the sport,” recalls Zach.

Zach says his best memory of playing basketball is when he was put into the home opening game against Nowata as a freshman. Scoring in his first high school game was the best feeling. His favorite teacher is coach Hayes. “He is always in a great mood and he is always laughing.”

When it is time to relax Zach wants to enjoy a medium rare ribeye steak while hanging out with friends, his girlfriend Kenzie, and family. He has fun messing around with his siblings and just enjoys spending time with these important people in his life.
