Locust Grove’s Kamry Wilkinson

Locust Grove volleyball standout Kamry Wilkinson started playing volleyball when she was in middle school. Now a senior, Wilkinson has played her final prep volleyball game for the Lady Pirates, but she will leave with a plethora of memories.

“I play outside hitter position, and I was in 7th grade when I started,” Wilkinson said. “My favorite moment was my first game back after having major knee surgery.”

Being a student-athlete at Locust Grove High School has been a great experience for Wilkinson. From her teachers to the support of the community, Wilkinson said it’s a great environment at LGHS.

“It provides a good learning environment as well as coaches who know how to switch over from teacher to coach and coach us hard and to the best of our abilities,” Wilkinson said. “My favorite subject in school is most definitely English, my favorite teacher in the high school is Mrs. Johnson!”

This season on the court, Wilkinson and her teammates fought hard for each and every win and Wilkinson said the team is building for the future.

“Everyone on the team surprised me this year, we had two freshmen start on varsity with us and my best friend Raegan Ross moved back to Locust Grove from a different high school for her senior and fit right in with our team,” Wilkinson said. “The teammate that keeps everyone laughing is Natalie Van Horn. She is the goofiest! I honestly don’t think we have just one person who is the most serious. There not just my teammates but my best friends to so we have a bond on and off the court.”

To prepare herself for competition, Wilkinson said she likes to turn the music on and try to relax before taking the court.

“To mentally prepare for me is to just listen to some music and relax my body and nerves to the best of my abilities,” said Wilkinson.

Wilkinson also plays basketball and golf for LGHS and is making plans for life after high school. “After high school my goal is to become a successful cosmetologist and to start my own family,” said Wilkinson.
