OKLAHOMA UNION COUGARS
Coach: STEVEN TRAMMELL
1-9
OFFENSE
Eight starters return to the offense for the Cougars and head coach Steven Trammell this season. Quarterback Connor Pierce (6-2, 190, Sr.) is back, and coach Trammell believes he is the guys who can help put more wins on the board for OKU. “Loves the lifestyle. Lives in the weight room and watches tons of film, while keeping his academics at the highest level,” Trammell said of Pierce. Pierce will look for one of his favorite targets in Bodee West (5-8, 150, Sr.), a quick receiver who continues to improve his route running abilities and works into the open zones. Jace Buckley (5-9, 170, So.) is a young player expected to see playing time on both sides of the ball. Buckley is the running back of choice and will give the Cougars someone who can move the chains behind a salty offensive line. Wyatt Gehle (5-11, 230, Jr.) will start at center, Hayden Johnson (5-10, 230, So.) starts at guard and Tucker Shufelt (6-1, 235, Jr.) will start at tackle. This group up front could be the key to the entire season.
DEFENSE
The 3-4 defense features two talented linebackers in Grant Reeves (5-9, 170, Sr.) and outside linebacker Tanner Dickerson (5-10, 180, Sr.). Add Pierce and Buckley to the mix and you have four outstanding players flying all over the field. Waylon Miner (5-8, 160, Sr.) and Jake Harris (5-9, 165, Sr.) are two safeties that love to hit and have the speed to cover the deep ball. Coach Trammell speaks highly of Harris, “High character kid from a set of high character brothers in a high character family. Ever coach wants a Harris, and every dad prays their daughter brings a Harris home.” The coaching staff includes Cordell Jackson, Matt Fuller, and Franklin Warf.
