2025 Oklahoma Union Cougars Football Preview

OKLAHOMA UNION COUGARS

Coach: BRUCE MUNDEN

3-7

OFFENSE

Entering his first season at the helm of the Oklahoma Union Cougar football program, new head coach Bruce Munden has four starters back from last season’s offensive unit. Colton Wickham (6-3, 175, Sr.) is a long, speedy receiver who is a match-up problem for most of the defenders he will face this season. Brody Shufeldt (6-0, 160, Jr.) is the Swiss Army knife for the Cougars and will likely line up in multiple positions. Joseph Lindner (5-11, 175, Jr.) will start at running back giving the Cougars a solid option in the RPO/RRO offense they plan to run this season. Kane Nash (6-0, 160, Jr.) joins Wickham at WR giving the offense another threat in the quick passing game. The offensive line features Tucker Shufeldt (6-0, 245, Sr.) and Wyatt Gehle (6-0, 225, Sr.). Both players are tough inside and will be critical to the overall success of the offense. Gehle will likely play center, but is capable of playing any spot on the line. Also look for Aiden Talbott, a sophomore who has the intangibles you want in a quarterback.

DEFENSE Several players will go both ways for the Cougars including Wickham who will start in the secondary on defense. Called a workaholic, Wickham is one of three seniors returning to the defense. The other two will play on the defensive line as Shufeldt and Gehle make their way from the offensive line to cause havoc for the defense. The Cougars will base the defense from a 3-3, but have the ability and the athletes to bounce into a 4-4 when necessary. Lindner will play a key role in that defensive change at linebacker. As will B. Shufeldt who can play multiple positions on defense. Nash will bring his size and speed to the defensive secondary where he will join Wickham. Nash is a naturally gifted athlete that can play any skill position on the field. He also brings leadership to the locker room and the field for the Cougars. The coaching staff includes Logan Bernard and Riley Duncan.
