OUTLOOK
With good depth and several players with good experience at the varsity level, the Bartlesville Bruins are looking forward to taking the field and competing at a high level this season. Head coach Cody Price said the team is loaded with seniors.
“We have more depth than we ever have in my tenure here. We have 11 seniors, which is by far the largest senior class we have had in my time as well. We have nine players who are returning with varsity experience, and we also have four transfers who will look to be in the mix. We are excited about the group that we have,” coach Price said.
Barrett Merciez is a three-year starter and a player who throws hard from the mound. Merciez is a next level player who committed to Cowley County Kansas.
“He has been one of our top district arms for the last two years as well as a big contributor in the infield and at the plate,” coach Price said.
Another three-year starter is Sam Marcella. Now a senior, Marcella will play shortstop and is a big part of the offense for the Bruins Returning starter Cooper Swaim enters his junior season as a player who can make a positive impact on the team again this season. Also look for senior Tyler Neeley, who is a transfer from Tacoma, Washington.
Another transfer expected to make an impact is senior Sam Hill. Hill has signed with Allen County Kansas and according to coach Price, Hill will play a significant role this season.
“Sam is going to make a big impact on our team – we are expecting big things out of him.”
Braden Neill is a utility type player who can help the Bruins behind the plate and at the corner infield positions. Neill may see time on the mound as well. Only a sophomore, coach Price said Neill is a “talented player and we expect him to be a big part of our team this year.”
Seniors Hayden Brown, Pierce Hindman and Sterling Kroh are three players with high expectations for the upcoming season. All three have the tools to help this team battle their way into post season play.
