Nowata begins a new era in 2026 with first-year head coach Scott Martin, who takes over a program eager to reset after a 2-8 campaign. Martin calls it an exciting time for the Ironmen and emphasizes that his first priority has been establishing a strong culture and daily standard in the locker room, weight room and practice field. The staff knows there is plenty of work ahead but is energized by the opportunity to build something and watch a young roster grow over the course of the season.
The Ironmen return four offensive starters and will operate out of a spread attack designed to get their best athletes into space and create favorable matchups. Senior receiver/defensive back Draven Swalley (6-1, 160) is one of the key playmakers in the passing game, using his length and athleticism on the perimeter. Senior running back/linebacker Asiah Saxton (6-1, 190) is the Top 100 nominee and will be heavily featured on both sides of the ball; coaches describe him as a first-class young man, considered a leader, very recruitable and extremely versatile. Senior Adrian O’Dell (5-9, 170) gives the offense flexibility with the ability to line up at running back, quarterback or linebacker, while senior lineman Kade Panther (6-2, 240) anchors the trenches on both offense and defense. With limited returning experience, the focus will be on execution, ball security and steady improvement as new contributors acclimate to varsity speed.
Defensively, Nowata also brings back four starters and will likely mirror its offensive philosophy by emphasizing speed and versatility across the field. Saxton’s presence at linebacker is central to the unit, as his physicality and range allow Martin to move pieces around him. O’Dell and Panther provide experience in the front seven, and the staff will be looking for younger players to step into roles across the defensive line and secondary as camp and early-season practices unfold. The overarching emphasis is on playing hard every snap, improving tackling and fundamentals, and building a defense that competes for four quarters regardless of the scoreboard. Martin stresses that culture, leadership and daily habits will drive any turnaround more than scheme alone. With Saxton setting the example, a small but committed senior class and a schedule that includes early tests against Warner, Chelsea and Ketchum, the Ironmen will measure success by how much they grow from August to November as they lay a new foundation for the program.
