9 Questions with Bartlesville’s Veronica McGill – Presented by Moxie On Second

VYPE: When did you start cheering and when did you know this was the sport for you?

Veronica McGill: I began cheer in 3rd grade, but I really knew it was my sport in around 9th grade because I truly connected with the excitement of cheering when competition came and performing for crowds.

VYPE: What are some of the positives you see from your team this season?
VM: Some of the positives I see from my team is how close everyone is, there are always differences on teams and who people connect with the fastest but with Bartlesville cheer I feel like I can talk and connect with the entire team.

VYPE: Are you involved in other activities at BHS?
VM: Along with the sport of cheer I also play lacrosse which I try to focus on both throughout the year while lacrosse is my focus throughout winter and summer and cheer the rest of the year.

VYPE: What makes BHS a great place to be a student-athlete?
VM: Bartlesville makes it possible for me to cheer in a fantastic environment because the sport is used as an hour and is continuously focusing on sports along with academics.

VYPE: What do you love most about your teammates?
VM: All of my teammates at BHS have such great energy to be around which can easily brighten any day.

VYPE: Which teammate keeps everyone laughing and who is the most serious?
VM: Sophomore Remi Hagen keeps the fun around the team as she is always joking around and getting everyone to laugh. Senior Kadence Barnett is really focused and serious when it comes to practicing, she can laugh and joke but when it comes to work, she is determined.

VYPE: How do you like to spend your down time?
VM: Break days can be very slim when competition season starts but Saturdays and Mondays tend to be the most relaxed in which I like to spend with my family or my friends, I cherish every relationship I have and find it important to make time for each of them.

VYPE: Who has made a big impact in your life?
VM: The person who has truly made a huge impact on my life is my mom, she has been with me throughout my steps of cheer and out of cheer. She always keeps me positive when I’m upset and never gives up. She is the most wonderful person to be around and always lightens the mood.

VYPE: What are your plans for life after high school?
VM: The goal I have for after high school is to attend college and play either lacrosse or cheer as I major in architecture.
