BARTLESVILLE BRUINS

Coach: BRYAN VASHUS

OUTLOOK

This season the Bruins are looking to send a handful of wrestlers to state including Joshua Vashus who enters his sophomore season with high expectations. Last season Vashus finished his varsity season with a record of 15-8 and went 26-14 overall.

“Once the season was over, he traveled to Kansas City and competed at Adidas Nationals where he finished 2nd place securing the title of All-American in the freshman category. Since that time, he competed in Freestyle, attended two camps, and has been working with former three-time OK State Champion, Fargo Finalist, and D1 National Qualifier Seth Vernon for one-on-one coaching. He is looking to have a breakout season this year and is excited to get rolling,” coach Vashus said.

Another wrestler looking to stay in top former is Tag-hee Crowels. Known as a hard worker and someone who takes his development serious, Crowels has attended a few camps and is seeing the results in real time.

“After attending a couple of camps this past summer, competing in some Freestyle tournaments, and Open Mat practices, he also shows up to voluntary 6:30 am practices (along with the required afternoon practices), and it shows. In his first ever varsity competition at the Bixby Open this season he finished 2nd place. His work ethic, enthusiasm for the sport, and desire to compete at a high level earns him the “Future Star” title,” coach Vashus said.

Another wrestler working his way to the podium is Kain Garrett. Coach Vashus said Garrett is, “the hardest worker on the team.” On and off the mat, Garrett is a great example of what it means to be a student-athlete. Coach Vashus said Garrett, “exemplifies what it means to pursue excellence in all things.”
