Accomplished gymnast Lyndsey Lief discovered her calling for the sport in an unexpected way. What began as a safer outlet for her love of tumbling around the house, quickly evolved into a lifelong passion.

“I’ve been doing gymnastics since I was three years old and I have been competing for nine of those years,” said Lief. “I liked flipping around at home and my parents put me in classes to be safer.”

As a competitive gymnast with the Bartlesville Gymnastics Club, the sophomore enters this season at a Level 10, the sport’s highest level, a milestone that reflects her commitment, focus, and hard work.

“I compete in all four events: vault, bars, beam, and floor. But my favorite is definitely floor,” she said. “I enjoy doing my skills and coming to practice every day.”

During the 2024-25 competition season, Lief qualified for Westerns, the highest meet for Level 9 in the nation.

“I medaled on beam at Western’s too which was a great accomplishment,” Lief explained.

Standing tall among the nation’s top gymnasts, Lief considers earning a medal at Westerns one of her proudest achievements to date.

Balancing academics and athletics can be challenging for many student-athletes, but Lief has found a way to make it work. Training four hours a day, five days a week undoubtedly requires commitment and sacrifice.

“I get my work done at school so I can go to practice right after and not worry about it,” she said.

Beyond physical ability, gymnastics has tested and shaped her mental resilience.

“My biggest challenge has been staying mentally focused at meets. With the help of my coaches, I am learning to overcome it,” Lief shared. “I am learning to take it one skill and one event at a time.”

Inspired by athletes like Jordan Bowers, whose attitude and performance she admires, Lief continues to set big goals for herself. This year, she is aiming to qualify for the Level 10 Regionals.

Lief shared, “It’s my first year Level 10 so it will be the ultimate challenge.”

Through it all, she remains grounded and grateful for the friendships and support she’s found within her team.

“I enjoy my teammates the most and getting to spend time with them,” she said. And when asked what gymnastics means to her, her answer is refreshingly simple: “Fun!”

It is her relentless, hardworking spirit that continue to propel her forward, proof that passion and perseverance can turn childhood flips into extraordinary achievements.
