Bartlesville’s Cadence Gray

Candence Gray entered the new basketball season ready to help her team win in any way she can. Head coach Justyn Shaw described Gray as an aggressive defender and a much-improved shot creator. Gray will play a guard/forward hybrid position as a junior on a team that features several upperclassmen.

“I started playing basketball in 4th grade with my mom as my coach for four years,” Gray said. “Defense is my main strength. I have improved my shot with my new trainer, Antonio.”

As a member of the varsity team, Gray said she loves being around her teammates and representing Bartlesville HS in competition.

“BHS is a great place for student-athletes because of the flexible class schedules and the culture,” Gray said. “Alayah Lunn keeps everyone on the team laughing but when it’s time to be serious we all lock in.”

Gray said a former teammate left an impression on her, helping to make some great memories.

“Karlee Joseph was a fun teammate to be around, and her energy and willingness to get better makes her awesome,” Gray said. “My favorite memory was the road trip to the Idabel tournament my freshman year.”

To prepare herself for a game, Gray said she will pray with a few teammates before they take the court. The junior said she loves how encouraging her teammates are. Aside from basketball, Gray competes in hurdles and shot put in track along with other activities like dance and piano. Her goal is to land a scholarship and play basketball in college while earning her degree.
