Bartlesville’s Cooper Swaim
When Cooper Swaim was in the eighth grade, he took the mound for a baseball game and that start turned into one of his fondest memories of his baseball career. That day he threw a perfect game.
Now a sophomore at Bartlesville High School, Swaim is a member of the varsity baseball team for the Bruins and helped the team to an 11-7 record through the month of March. Swaim said coming into the season he had one goal for himself and the team.
“To compete at the highest level of competition in the state and win a regional and go to the state tournament,” said Swaim.
Always working on his game, Swaim said he is improving in certain areas such as leadership, which can be tough for an underclassman.
“ ”“My biggest strength is my work ethic and ability to stay calm. I’ve improved on taking in a big leadership role as an underclassman,” said Swaim.
Swaim said he loves playing with this group of guys and he’s been impressed with several of his teammates.
“The teammate I’m most impressed by is probably one of my best friends sophomore Kanin Romesburg,” Swaim said. “Senior Damien Niko definitely keeps us all laughing. The most serious is probably myself. What I love most about my team is the way they were all so welcoming to me after transferring in as an underclassman.”
His parents are a source of inspiration on and off the field. “The people that inspire me that most has to be my parents because they taught me how to be the person I am today,” Swaim said. “My goal after high school is to pursue my baseball career as long as I can and then potentially becoming a coach later on in life.”
Swaim said he stays mentally prepared by praying consistently and staying levelheaded.
