When the Bartlesville Lady Bruins hit the court, Emma Zimmerman is there with her teammates, ready to work for the win. Now a senior at Bartlesville High School, Zimmerman discovered basketball when she was four and her dad introduced her to the game.
Basketball taught her to be willing to fight for what she wants, and that hard work will pay off.
“The best advice anyone has ever given me is to never give up and keep fighting for what I want to accomplish,” she said.
Success on the court starts with relationships. Building relationships with her teammates is what she enjoys most about being on a team. She fondly remembers the adrenaline rush of games as she and her teammates battled on the court to win close games.
“My favorite part about basketball is all of the memories I get to make with my teammates,” Zimmerman said.
Many teammates have influenced her through the years. This year, several girls with similar mindsets on basketball have made a positive impact on Zimmerman.
“We all really care about each other,” she said.
Winning alongside her teammates feeds the passion for basketball. Bartlesville is a strong community full of good people. This makes Zimmerman proud to represent them through her school as an athlete.
“My favorite part about representing my high school is that I feel like we have a good community,” Zimmerman said.
In school, her favorite subject is math because she has always been good with numbers.
Zimmerman thanks Coach Shaw, Coach Flick and her parents. Her mom and dad have provided her with the inspiration needed to help her succeed in sports and in life.
“They’ve worked so hard for everything they have and it just shows me that hard work will always pay off,” she said.
Basketball is important but she also enjoys traveling with her family. The most memorable vacation, she says, was to Florida last year. She and her family did all kinds of things and had a lot of fun on the trip.
After high school Zimmerman would like to attend Pitt State University in Kansas.
