Bartlesville’s Leighton Sigler – Soccer Spotlight

Bartlesville’s Leighton Sigler

Leighton Sigler is in her sophomore season at Bartlesville High School where she is a member of the varsity soccer team. Sigler said she started playing soccer at a very young age.

“I started playing when I was about five,” Sigler said. “I’m mostly playing as a center-mid and winger this season.”

The work to get better never stops and this season Sigler is working to improve in an important area of the game.

“One of my strengths is my ability to see the bigger picture of a play. I have stepped out of my comfort zone and increased the physical side of my game this season,” said Sigler.

Sigler said she is grateful for the support everyone provides her and the team. Finding time for other activities is a challenge.

“The support from my family, coaches, friends, and fans means everything to me.  I really couldn’t do it without them,” Sigler said. “My biggest challenge as a high school athlete is finding time for down during a busy season.”

When it comes to her teammates, Sigler said they are more like family.

“I love that my teammates and I are so close.  Our almost sisterly bond helps us tremendously when we are out on the field,” Sigler said. “Someone who has always inspired me is my sister, Eva. She is a Lady Bruin alum. I have yet to see any player with her technical abilities and creativity. I aspire to play like her.”

Last week, the Lady Bruins defeated Owasso and Sigler said the win was one of her favorite moments as a student-athlete.

“It was definitely surprising to us, but super uplifting, “said Sigler.

Her plan for the future is to attend college and work towards a degree in psychology.
