Bartlesville’s Reese Johnson

Bartlesville sophomore Reese Johnson has been dancing and performing since just three years old. Joining Pom in the 7th grade, Johnson says the sport has helped her grow as a performer, teaching her discipline, confidence, and the value of working with others.

“Pom allows me to be involved in the school and the community,” she says. “I’ve also learned a lot about myself through it.”

The draw of showcasing well-rehearsed skills and being a part of a collective effort are aspects of pom that Johnson loves.

“I first became interested because I love performing and being part of a team,” she reflects. “What I enjoy most about being a part of my school’s pom team is representing my school and being able to be involved and give back to my community.”

Johnson enjoys performing Jazz and Hip-Hop, noting that her favorite part is bringing energy to the crowd and expressing emotions through her routines. As seamless as their routines may look, Johnson says the hardest part is balancing precision with performance. “Every move has to be sharp and in sync, but you also have to sell it with energy and emotion,” says Johnson.

Her discipline has already earned her notable achievements, including 1st place at regionals and 3rd place at the National Dance Alliance competition in Orlando, Florida. “Those are my proudest moments,” she adds.

With so much support around her, each accomplishment feels even more rewarding.

“My biggest supporters have been my mom and dad,” says Johnson. “They always show up and cheer me on through every challenge.”

She also acknowledges the encouragement and effort of her teammates and coaches, sharing how much their dedication motivates her.

“Shoutout to all of my teammates for always pushing me to be better, and to my coaches for believing in us every step of the way.” With that support, Johnson looks forward to continuing to grow as a performer and contribute to her team’s success.

At the end of the day, Reese Johnson hopes that from the outside looking in, their effort doesn’t go unnoticed.

“I’d like people to know how much heart and dedication our team puts in,” she says. “Because behind every performance are hours of practice, teamwork, and passion.”
