Bartlesville’s Russell Miller – Track Spotlight – Presented by Union State Bank

Bartlesville’s Russell Miller

Bartlesville High School senior Russell Miller started participating in track when he was a sophomore. Now he is competing in multiple events for the Bruins and is loving every minute of it.

“I’m looking forward to being able to compete against the best track athletes in the state this year,” said Miller.

Coming into this season, Miller wanted to improve in a couple of areas that will help his team have success at meets. Miller said he has put in the work this offseason to make his final season at BHS a memorable one.

“I have improved my endurance this off-season and my strength is the mid distance races,” Miller said. “I will compete in the 4×400, 4×800, 800, 1600, 3200-meters.”

Also a cross country runner, Miller said competing in track is different than running cross country.

“Track is a lot more time consuming than cross country and requires a lot of leg speed,” said Miller.

But the senior said BHS gives their athletes the tools they need to be successful.

“BHS is a great place for student-athletes because there is room for athletes to train as they need,” said Miller.

As for the team, Miller said many of his teammates have impressed him this season.

“Jackson Boudreaux has impressed me a lot because he has been battling injuries and still working hard,” Miller said. “I love that my teammates push me and support me even through bad races.”

Miller plans to attend college after high school and stay fit. Miller said his coach has been a big influence in his life.

“Coach Turk inspires me most on the track because he is passionate about track and holds the mile record at the school,” said Miller.
