Caney Valley’s Kalynn Edwards – Softball Spotlight – Presented by Arvest Bank

Athletes at all levels of competition work hard to be their best when they compete. Along with all the work, having a solid support system can also play a big role in being successful. Kalynn Edwards, a sophomore at Caney Valley High School, says that people in her life have helped her get to where she is today.

“My family, coach Fox, and coach Rogers are role models for me,” she said. “They push me to be the better version of myself and they have taught me a lot. My younger sister, Anderly, and my family are my motivation to keep working hard and getting better.”

Edwards is a multi-sport athlete for the Trojans. She mainly plays centerfield on the softball field, but can play anywhere she is needed. On the basketball court, you can usually find her down low. She competes in the long jump as a member of the track team.

The work that Kalynn has invested into her sports shows whenever she is competing. She has also seen the hard work pay off.

“For me to be the player that I am today it has taken a lot of practice and working with my sister,” she stated. “I think one of the highlights of my career would be hitting my first home run,” she recalled. “Another would be winning the conference in the long jump and setting the all time record for Caney Valley.”

Andy Fox is the head softball coach at Caney Valley. He says that along with being a solid athlete, Edwards is also a great teammate and student.

“Kaylynn is the type of student athlete every coach enjoys,” Fox said. “As a teammate, she is supportive, hardworking and always works to better herself and the team.  She is unselfish and will contribute in any way necessary. As in sports, she approaches academics with the same motivation, to try to become the best student she can be. Across all of her athletic and academic endeavors, Kalynn is a rising star.”

No matter what sport it is, Kalynn and her teammates are always ready to compete. But she has one opponent that she enjoys getting the win against a little more than the rest.

“Oklahoma Union is my favorite opponent to beat,” she said. “I consider them our biggest rivals.”
