Dewey’s Jaidin Henderson – Cheer Spotlight – Presented by Arvest Bank

Dewey’s Jaidin Henderson

At the start of the 2024-25 school year, Dewey High School’s Jaidin Henderson knew this would be a great year for her as a member of the varsity cheer team as a senior.

Henderson started her cheer journey when she was in the first grade, and she has worked every year to earn the title of Captain.

“I started cheer in 1st grade and have cheered ever since,” Henderson said. “I’m a main bass and the captain of the cheer team.”

Being captain does carry some responsibility and Henderson said she has enjoyed building great friendships with her teammates.

“I enjoy the bonds I have built with my teammates and coaches, and all the long-lasting memories that have been made,” Henderson said. “I would say my coaches and teammates inspire me most, they push me to do my best and expect nothing less than my best effort. I love how close we all are. I enjoy being able to joke and laugh with my teammates. The bonds that are built within a small team create long lasting memories.”

There have been many highlights for Henderson, including taking the mat with her teammates in competition.

“One of my highlights so far this year has been competing in the fall with my team, we went out and did our best and also had fun while doing it,” said Henderson.

But cheer is not her sole focus. Henderson is a member of National Honor Society and is excited for the next chapter of life.

“I plan to get a nursing degree and work in pediatrics and then eventually further my career to become a Nurse Practitioner,” Henderson said. “My favorite subject is science and for my favorite teacher I would have to say is a tie between Mrs. Kuhns (her coach) and coach Rich.”

Henderson said next year you should expect to see greater numbers in the team size and hopefully some cool stunts.
