Dewey senior Marshal McDaniel is ready to help the Bulldoggers make noise this football season.
A wide receiver and outside linebacker, McDaniel brings versatility to the field and embraces the competitive standard shared throughout the Dewey program. His teammates’ collective approach is one reason he enjoys representing the Bulldoggers.
“The thing I love about my teammates and Dewey is everyone wants to work hard, everyone on the team wants the same goal and that is to have a state run,” McDaniel said.
For McDaniel, that pursuit depends on more than talent. It requires a full-game commitment, a lesson he has carried into his senior season.
“I learned that we need to all play four quarters with no quitting,” McDaniel said.
Offensively, McDaniel takes pride in making plays after the reception. On defense, he is focused on continuing to improve his coverage skills as an outside linebacker. The combination gives him opportunities to make an impact in several ways for Dewey.
“I think my strength is me getting yards after a catch and I am working on my defensive coverage,” McDaniel said.
McDaniel said the team’s brotherhood is among the best parts of being a Bulldogger. He continues to value connections with former teammates Layne Gastel and Easton Davis, who remain part of his life after graduation.
His biggest motivation entering the season is simple: “I am most excited about proving everyone wrong this season.”
Away from football, McDaniel also competes in basketball and golf for Dewey. He credits his older brother as a major influence in his life.
“My idol is my big brother, growing up with an older brother is a blessing you don’t realize it until they move out and start their own life, he was the best father figure a kid could ask for,” McDaniel said.
After high school, McDaniel hopes to continue playing football at the college level and begin building his career.
