Hominy’s Blaine Hipp – Athlete Spotlight

By Rose Hutchins

Hominy High School senior, Blaine Hipp, is a multi-sport athlete who competes in football, basketball, baseball, and track. He plays quarterback in football, power forward in basketball, shortstop and pitcher in baseball, and running a relay leg in track. On the diamond, he’s determined to make his final season one he won’t forget.

Hipp started playing baseball when he was about four years old and has loved competing ever since. What he enjoys most is the feeling of winning and competing; for him there’s nothing like it.

“I thrive on competition because it pushes me to be better than I was yesterday,” Hipp shares.

Hipp’s father has made a huge impact on him because he always brings the best out of him, on and off the field. He helps him out with the extra work needed to be successful. One thing that makes Hominy’s team special is the loyalty and love the team has for one another. As a team, they put in the work needed to win and lift each other up when it gets tough.

One of Hipp’s favorite memories was playing in the state championship game at UCO. It’s an experience that will go down as one of the greatest moments of his life. For Hipp, competition is all the same: he doesn’t see any opponent as more or less than another; his goal is to be determined to win. Hipp believes in finishing what you start, consistently demonstrating the same dedication from start to finish.

Off the field, Hipp is involved in the Native American Student Association at school. He’s devoted to focusing on his schoolwork and getting it done so he can fully focus on his athletic career. He understands being a student athlete is the key to success.

Hipp had some thoughtful advice to the younger athletes striving to pick up a ball one day.

“Stay consistent in everything you do because consistency is what leads to improvement. If you want to be better, you have to show up every day and put in the work,” he shares.

For Hipp, being able to play and carry on the tradition of Hominy High School means everything to him. Once he graduates, he plans to earn a bachelor’s degree while continuing to play baseball at the college level.
