The early games in the season are used as a measuring tool as you head into district play. The Bruins have played two tough games heading into week 3 against Collinsville, another non-district opponent.
One player looking to raise his game is senior wide receiver Damien Niko. Niko started playing football in middle school and is now one of the go-to players on offense.
“I started playing football in 8th grade, I knew football was my sport when I started to get really good at it,” said Niko.
The senior said there are more positives than negatives despite the 0-2 start to the season.
“Some positive l saw was we still found a way to compete even though some of our teammates left,” said Niko.
Niko continues to find ways to help his team on the field and as a wide receiver, Niko wants to make those big plays count.
“As a wide receiver my favorite thing is running routes and perfecting them, and going up to catch the ball,” said Niko.
Also a baseball player, Niko uses his speed in centerfield to run down fly balls. Niko said being a student-athlete at BHS is special because of the community support.
“Bartlesville is a great place because how close everyone is, the whole community has our back,” said Niko.
Away from school Niko said he enjoys hanging out with friends, playing golf and would like to become a pilot after high school.
