NOWATA IRONMEN

BOYS

Coach: Derick Ott

23-24 Record: 12-15

OUTLOOK

Entering the 2024-25 season, head coach Derick Ott returns several key players to the court this season as he looks to build on the success of last season.

“We have five out of our top seven coming back off last year’s squad. We lost our leading scorer, but I think we will be more dynamic on offense and better defensively than we were last year. We will have 8-10 kids that I feel will be capable of each and every night if need be,” said Ott.

Talon Thompson – Nowata High School

VYPE Top 100 selectee Talon Thompson (6-3, Jr.) averaged 10 points and 8.0 rebounds as a sophomore last year and is expected to see those numbers increase now that Thompson is more familiar and comfortable in his role at power forward. Time in the gym and weight room will pay off this.

“He is the type of kid that wants to be good, wants to be coached hard, and will do what it takes to help his team. I always say he has gotten better, but still has room for growth and still has another level he will be able to reach if he wants to get there,” said Ott.

Chelo Prince (5-8, Sr.) will start at point guard giving the Ironmen experience and leadership at the spot. Prince is talented enough to play shooting guard as well. His on the defensive end of the court will be key.

Keep an eye on Adrian O’Dell (5-7, So.) who played some as a freshman and could have a big impact this season on both ends of the court.

“Adrian has the absolute best court vision of any player I have had the pleasure to coach over the years. He will be our floor general this year as a sophomore and the future around here with him is bright,” said Ott.

Clint Harrington (So.) starts at center giving the Ironmen someone who can bang for rebounds and alter shots for the opponents. Very few players will work harder than Harrington as he looks to control the paint and be a difference maker on both ends of the floor.
