Pryor’s Caitlin White
Pryor High School senior Caitlin White started competing in track when she was in the eighth grade after COVID shut down the schools. White is now competing in several events for the Tigers.
“I compete in the 3200, 1600 and sometimes the 800-meters if I’m feeling risky,” said White.
To make those long-distance runs, it’s a physical and mental battle within. White said she has focused on the mental side of the sport.
“A strength of my skill set would be my positivity! As weird as that sounds, track is all mental so being positive to your teammates as well as yourself can make or break your race. I would say that I improved on learning how to tie my shoes really fast on the third call before my race,” said White.
Preparing to compete is a process for White and her routine is set.
How I mentally prepare for a competition is first thing when I wake up, I read my daily verse as I do in my day-to-day schedule. This often reminds me of how grateful I am to be doing this sport, to not take it for granted, and to Thank the Lord for every blessing he provides. I also picture myself in my races running my ideal times and doing well. Other than that, I just have fun with the meet! I mean what’s the point if you’re not having fun, right?”
White said she loves her teammates and the support everyone shows one another.
“My teammates carry me through this sport. Not only do they lift me up on my hard days but if we all have a hard day, we go through it together with support and love for one another. This sport would not be the same for me if it wasn’t for the best teammates over the years.”
Her goal in life after high school is to move 18 hours away to Sarasota, Florida and run for New College of Florida.
“I intend to get a degree in psychology and continue my education to med school with hopes of becoming a neurosurgeon,” said White.
