Q&A with Bartlesville’s Brooke Baker – Presented by Rib Crib

VYPE: What goals do you have for this year in soccer?

Brooke Baker: My goals for this year are to enjoy my last year of playing soccer and give the underclassmen someone to look up to.

VYPE: What has soccer taught you that you use in your daily life?

BB: Soccer has taught me many different life lessons and responsibilities. It has shown me how much easier things are when you have a team rather than being alone.

VYPE: What’s your favorite part of being a soccer player?

BB: My favorite part of being a soccer player is the competitiveness. One second you’re smiling and laughing and the next you’re getting into a fight with the opposing team.

VYPE: Who inspires you and why?

BB: I am inspired by a lot of the girls who played before me. Jaci Decker, Millie Butler, Lauren Shoesmith, and Eva Sigler are only a few. Coming into a high school sport is scary. These girls are not only amazing athletes but also took me in and made me feel welcomed. That meant a lot to me and who I aspire to be to the new freshmen.

VYPE: What do you think is the biggest challenge in soccer?

BB: The biggest challenge in soccer is what you’re thinking mentally. Soccer is a game of mistakes and it’s easy to beat yourself up. I have to remind myself to not hold on to my mistakes and continue playing the game.

VYPE: What do you think makes a great soccer player?

BB: I believe confidence is what makes a great soccer player. Again, soccer is a mental game. Everyone is going to mess up but the player who keeps trying is what is going to win the game.

VYPE: Who in your family is the best athlete?

BB: My family is full of great athletes! Each of my cousins play different sports so it’s hard to say who is the best. My cousin Avery Baker played Softball for Rose State In OKC. It was always fun getting to hear her stories of being a college athlete.

VYPE: What’s one sport you wish you could play that you don’t already play?

BB: If I could play any other sport, I think I’d enjoy lacrosse. I’ve never played, but I definitely need a sport that keeps me on the run and outdoors. Their uniforms are also super cute!

VYPE: What’s your go-to pregame song?

BB: I don’t really have a pregame song. Most of the time I turn on my playlist and listen to whatever song turns on. Tracy Lawrence, Brooks and Dunn, Tim McGraw and new artists like Treaty Oak Revival, Morgan Wallen, Parker McCollum, Megan Moroney and Sam Barber are just a few artists on my playlist.
