Q&A with Dewey’s Kyla Overton

VYPE: Kyla, what college or professional athlete do you look up to?
Kyla Overton: I look up to Nija Canady, she has a certain presence on the mound that I strive to have! 

VYPE: Which teammate at DHS always has the dirtiest uniform after a game?
KO: Chanley Herren, she is my catcher let’s just say that she’s a brick wall and not afraid to get dirty! 

VYPE: Which teammate keeps everyone laughing?
KO: Rayvon Calhoun, she is a freshman, and she always keeps us laughing.

VYPE: What’s your go-to song while on the bus ride or before a game?
KO: My go to song is “Make a Way” by Karen Clark Sheard.

VYPE: If you could pitch against one opponent, who would you want?
KO: I would want to pitch against Jocelynn Alo. She is the best hitter in the game, and I would like to see how I do against her. 

VYPE: What is the best kept secret about Dewey? Either the team or the town.
KO: It’s not necessarily a secret, but one thing that I feel like a lot of people don’t know about Dewey Softball is how on fire for God that we are. We strive to play and glorify him in everything that we do. We understand that we are playing for something bigger than softball. 

VYPE: What is your favorite thing to drink on or off the field?
KO: Cran-Grape juice.

VYPE: What college would you like to play for and what do you think you would like to major in?
KO: I am committing my next two years to play at McLennan college. I am looking into majoring in sports medicine/business.

VYPE: Who inspires you?
KO: My mom!
