CHOUTEAU-MAZIE WILDCATS

Coach: JEFF BROWN

3-7

OFFENSE

Every season has its own set of challenges. Playing in a tough district is common, and for small schools, having numbers is another hill to climb. For coach Jeff Brown and the Chouteau-Mazie Wildcats, facing those challenges head on is what they do. “We lost a good group of seniors, but on the flipside also have a few good players returning with a lot of experience. Being in a small school, numbers are always tough. We will take the field with about 32 players,” said Brown. Offensively the Wildcats will look to quarterback Gavin Graham (5-10, 180, Sr.) for leadership this season. Graham will run the flex-bone and have guys like Destin McCrary (5-7, 155, Sr.) in the backfield. McCrary is just one of several weapons the Wildcats will lean on this season. Mark Cato (5-8, 180, Sr.) is another running back with big play potential. Also look for Wyatt Combs (5-9, 170, Sr.) in the passing game at wide receiver. The offensive line features two guys will solid experience in Isaac Broome (6-1, 250, Sr.) and Kyler Hill (6-0, 210, Sr.).

DEFENSE

Several players will see time on defense including Graham who starts at outside linebacker in the 3-4 defense the Wildcats will run this season. Look for coach Brown to use multiple fronts to keep the opposing offensive line guessing. Cato joins Graham at linebacker with Tayler Applegate (6-0, 215, Jr.) stepping in to give the Wildcats a formidable linebacker corps. Broome and Hill will start on the defensive line playing tackle and end respectively. McCrary remains in the secondary where he gained experience and grew as a player last season. The coaching staff consists of Travis Brannon, Mike Inglett, and Kelly Shive. Overall, the defense needs a few younger players to step up, mature and become productive members of the Wildcat defense.
