Kansas Comet Cheer
The Kansas cheer team understands hard work and what it takes to prepare for a long season of football and competition on the mat. Under head coach Chelsi Price the team is more focused then ever and with the assistance of a few coaches and trainers, the Comets are poised for a great season.
Prior to the start of the season, the Kansas team put in hours of work to ensure they would be prepared and ready for the first kickoff.
“Our early season consisted of stunt training over the summer, as well as a GameDay Competition Camp in July,” Coach Price said. “We really wanted to focus on our stunts and making sure they were strong, and we were blessed to get to work with trainers from Elite Cheer in Siloam Springs, AR., and AP Choreography with our GameDay routine. We have three days of afterschool practice each week, and we met two days a week over the summer for camp and regular practices.”
GameDay State is quickly approaching, and the team is excited to get their shot at competing against the best in the state.
“We are competing at GameDay this year, November 8th, which is the day after our last regular season football game,” said Coach Price.
The team has named Gabriella Russell, a junior, Josalynn Labitad and Gaochia Lee both sophomores as captains this season. The trio are embracing the role and doing their best to help everyone reach their goals together. Coach Price said she’s most proud of how together this group is and hard they are working.
“I am very proud of this group of young people for sticking together and working hard. They are very close to each other and there’s a lot of trust between them all. They are continually pushing each other to be better and cheer each other on when they accomplish goals. I love the comradery that the team has.”
Community support plays a key role in every program at KHS. Coach Price said knowing the community is behind the cheer team and all of the athletic teams at KHS is a great feeling.
“It means the world! We have a wonderful community here in Kansas who do everything they can to support our sports teams. We have several local donors participate in our fundraisers and it’s really great to know that Kansas loves their Comets as much as we do,” said Coach Price.
