The Longhorns are entering the 2024-25 season with a roster that features several wrestlers capable of having big seasons. Head coach Kris Powell is waiting on a few football players to enter the wrestling room, but he is excited to see guys like Gavin Miller make their return to the team.
Miller (Jr.) was a 3rd place finisher last season in Class 4A at 113-pounds and is expected to have another big year. Miller will push himself to make it back to the podium this season and is likely the Longhorns top returning wrestler but look for Blayze Stonecipher (So.) to step things up this season after an excellent freshman year. Stonecipher wrestled at 120-pounds last season and is likely to move up in weight this year.
Another sophomore to watch this season is Owen Ellis. Ellis has a tremendous work ethic and brings toughness to the mat for the Longhorns. Ellis wrestled through injuries last season as a freshman at 175-pounds and is poised for his best season at the varsity level.
“ ”Also look for Jarrett Diacon (So.) who came in last season as a freshman and has continued to work in the wrestling room to improve and prepare for the long season this winter. Heavyweight Alejandro Gallegos (Jr.) is the type of teammate everyone wants on their squad.
“Alejandro was hurt all last year and couldn’t wrestle but showed up to everything to support his teammates,” said coach Powell.
The Longhorns will travel to several tournaments this season including Pryor, Chuck West Tournament in Bristow and will host the Inola Tournament on January 10th and 11th.
