Inola’s Joseph Estes

When the Longhorns of Inola take to the track, one sprinter everyone loves to see compete is Joseph Estes.

Now in his senior season, Estes competes in the shorter sprinting competitions and for good reason. Head coach Kanella Andrews Estes is a hard worker and a leader for the Longhorns track program.

“Joseph is a senior and placed 6th at state in Class 4A in the 100-meter dash last season. He is also on the sprint relays. He’s a very hard worker and a team leader,” said coach Andrews.

This season Estes will compete in the 100 and 200-meters as well as the 4X100 and 4X200 relays. To mentally prepare for competition, Estes said he has a routine to help settle himself for the event.

“I mentally prepare myself to compete by calming down and relaxing before the race,” said Estes.

His greatest asset on the track is his ability to reach and maintain his top speed. Estes said it’s the strength of his skill set on the track. It’s one that could land him a spot on a collegiate roster.

“My goal for life after high school is to go to college for track,” said Estes.

Representing Inola High School is something Estes is proud to do, and he said the community and school support the student-athletes.

“Inola is a great place to be a student-athlete because if the people, the teachers and the coaches. They are all really caring,” said Estes.

That support from the school and the fans means a lot to Estes and his teammates.

“The support means a lot. My parents and my coaches are always there for me,” said Estes.

The senior said the goal for this season is to make the podium at state. Estes said he believes he can get there and has a source of inspiration in his family.

“They want to see me succeed in everything,” said Estes.
