Jay’s Kenan Garcia

Being a great teammate and helping his team win is the ultimate goal for Jay High School’s Kenan Garcia. Now a junior, Garcia is a combo guard for the Bulldogs and someone who has played basketball since the age of three or four.

Garcia worked hard in the offseason to improve in areas he felt needed some attention.

“I like to say I can handle the ball pretty well, not the best but it’s definitely something in my game I am confident at. One thing I’m trying to improve is my driving and finishing, just trying to get downhill and attack the best I can,” said Garcia.

Garcia said the community of Jay makes being a student-athlete great at JHS.

“The people and the community is probably the best thing. Everyone has each other back, we may joke around with each other and give each other hard times but at the end of the day the town of Jay is all one and we are all going to support each other,” Garcia said. “I love that every day we push each other to get better. We may be a little tuff on each other sometimes, but we are only trying to get each other better. It’s always WE over ME.”

Aside from basketball, Garcia also plays football and baseball for the Bulldogs.

“I also play football and baseball wear for football I start wide receiver and cornerback or safety, and in baseball I am starting second baseman,” said Garcia.

But his focus is always on his teammates.

“One teammate that has stepped up in a big way is Michael Rogers, he didn’t play much as a freshman last year but this year he is starting and has been a major role on our team for rebounding and scoring in the post,” Garcia said. “A teammate that keeps us all laughing is Bradee Rutherford he always has something to say. The teammate that is always serious is probably Ryan Taylor.”

Garcia is making plans for life after high school. “Hopefully go to college to get a great education and just become a great person. Hopefully the Lord blesses me with an amazing family, and I get to become a father,” said Garcia.
