Trevor Taylor is a Junior at Jay High school and is not taking his next year for granted. Over the summer Taylor ranked 3rd out of 18 at the OCU Kicking World Camp – putting Jay Football & Taylor on the radar. Taylor was one of the many Oklahoma and out of state athletes who participated in the summer camp.
Although the season has ended, Trevor highlights some of his memories on and off the field. He will never forget the feeling of the fans before a game at Bulldog Stadium.
Trevor says, “Your adrenaline kicks in and it feels like your heart will jump out of you! I never get nervous but feeling the crowd’s excitement is a boost! The anticipation turns into fuel which encourages me and the teammates to focus and play.”
VYPE: What sports & any school activities are you involved in?
Trevor: Football, basketball and NE Tech Welding Program.
VYPE: What camps have you attended and what are you looking forward to improving for next season?
Trevor: OCU Kicking WORLD kicking Camp EDMOND, Oklahoma! I want to focus on improving my skills on offense and defensive line and of course kicking.
VYPE: When did you start playing football & what position do you play now?
Trevor: I started playing football in third grade with the green country football association. I play left and right guard and defensive end and kickoff and field goal kicker.
VYPE: What is your Hype song before a game?
Trevor: “One of the ones” by Gifted Hands (Christian music)
VYPE: Is there someone on the team who motivates you?
Trevor: Yea, My teammate Trenton Brixey!
VYPE: When you’re not at school, what do you like to do?
Trevor: Go deer hunting, fishing, play video games sometimes, hangout with my brother in law/friends and attend church events and family.
VYPE: Who has been the most influential coach throughout your career?
Trevor: Coach Taylor Poe-He and Coach Mute!
Coach Taylor Poe-He told me I could do things when I thought that I couldn’t. He always believed in me and made me a better player on and off the field. He is no longer my coach at Jay, but he still is a big influence to me today.
Coach Mute – My Green Country little league football coach… where it all started. He never gave up on us. He coached us as if we were his own and when we made mistakes. It was always positive and encouraging, never had a negative word to say to us. We were like family.
All my coaches have been a big influence for me. All of them play a different role and I respect each and every one of them.
VYPE: What’s a favorite memory of yours playing football?
Trevor: My favorite memory was playing in the green country youth league. Playing with my fellow teammates that I am currently playing with now in high school we are all juniors now and since third grade I think it’s pretty sentimental to me to be able to play with the same group of teammates that you’ve been with since the Green Country youth league. We were runner up in the green Country football league and we were also overall green country youth champions the last year that we all graduated from the youth league. Those were the times that we were able to enjoy ourselves and just let life be what it was.
My favorite high school memory is pink out night when we get to wear our pink out jerseys and represent an honor those that are survivors and have passed on from cancer and I was able to represent my great-aunt that passed away this year and military night is also a special night because we get to wear our military jerseys, and I get to honor my grandfather for his service in the army.
VYPE: Do you have a shoutout you’d like to give to your team, friends or family?
Trevor: I want to give a shout out to all of my family for always giving me encouragement before a game during the game after the game. Family is everything.
