Kansas High School junior Gracie Woods approaches varsity softball with the same commitment she brings to every activity in which she is involved. A versatile player who pitches and plays outfield, Woods values the relationships and shared history that shape the Comets’ program.
“We have all grown up playing together. We have fun and support each other, but when it is time to play, we are competitive and give everything we have for each other and our coaches. I think the bond we have and the way we fight for one another is what makes our team so special.”
Woods began her softball journey early, first taking the field in T-ball at age 5. Now, she continues to expand her role for Kansas High School. While pitching remains part of her responsibilities, she is also adapting to a newer defensive assignment in the outfield.
“This school year, I play outfield and I pitch. The most difficult thing about playing outfield is that I am new to the position, so there is a lot to learn.”
Her willingness to learn reflects the mindset Woods brings to the game. She identifies her competitiveness, work ethic and ability to fill needed roles as key strengths, while continuing to focus on her offensive development.
“I am competitive and give my maximum effort. I am willing to work hard, learn, and do whatever my team and coaches need from me. I am working on improving my bat swing.”
Woods credits her parents for providing steady encouragement throughout her athletic career. She also points to a 2026 graduate and former teammate who made a lasting impact.
“2026 KHS graduate, Ashtyn Glass. She was always so inspiring and energetic. She always made me believe in myself.”
Outside of softball, Woods plays basketball and runs track for Kansas High School. She also participates in Student Council, FFA, FCA and BETA Club. After graduation, Woods plans to attend the University of Arkansas and pursue a career in orthodontics.
