There is a lot of time and effort that goes into being successful at anything. The same goes for athletes, because in order to be at their best when it comes time to compete, they have to prepare themselves physically and mentally. Kylie Bird says that preparation is a key to success.
“It has taken a lot for me to be where I am,” she said. “There have been countless hours of lessons and also working with my dad.”
Bird is in her senior year at Locust Grove High School, where she is a pitcher and first baseman for the softball team. Outside of sports, she is a member of the National Honor Society and she is part of the Health Careers program at Vo-Tech.
Throughout her life, Kylie has had people that have had an impact on the person she is today. She says that she is thankful for the role they have played in her life.
“My mama is my role model,” she said. “She taught me to do my best in everything I do, never give up no matter the circumstances, and don’t get upset over things you cannot control. A teacher that has influenced me is coach Cowan. He always made learning fun and always believed in me and all of his students and always pushed us to be the best version of ourselves. I also want to thank my dad for all the time and effort he has put in to help me become the player I am today. And to coach Tramel for always believing in me and to coach Foster for always holding me accountable and believing in me too.”
When she steps on the softball field wearing the Locust Grove uniform, Kylie is reminded that she is playing for more than just herself and her team.
“I’m proud to be a Pirate,” she said. “I always try to do my best to be respectful and have a good attitude because I am representing my team, my school, and community.”
