Mayes County Mom of the Month – Tina Kerr – Pryor High School
As a dedicated supporter of Pryor High School athletics, Tina Kerr has been named the Mayes County Mom of the Month for her commitment to the softball program and the wider school community. Her daughter, Caylee, is an 11th grader at Pryor who plays softball and basketball, and Kerr has turned her role as a sports parent into an opportunity to serve others.
“I serve as the secretary of the softball booster club and enjoy supporting the team in any way I can,” Kerr said. “My responsibilities include coordinating concession supplies, working the concession stand, arranging lodging for out-of-town tournaments, and gathering items for special events, such as goody bags for the girls when they qualify for state competitions. Whether it’s assisting the coaches, supporting the players, or helping behind the scenes, I’m always willing to step in wherever needed. It’s rewarding to contribute to the team’s success and help create positive experiences for the athletes.”
That spirit of service is driven by the relationships she has built with the players and coaches at Pryor. “I truly enjoy interacting with the girls on the team and working alongside the coaches. They dedicate so much of their time and energy to supporting and developing our athletes, so I want to help in any way I can. It’s a small way to give back and show appreciation for everything they do.”
Away from the ballfields and gyms, Kerr values time with her family. “Our family enjoys taking at least one vacation each year when we don’t have to work around sports schedules. Recently, we’ve started planning those trips around Thanksgiving since that’s usually when everyone has some free time. We also enjoy taking our daughter’s Jeep on trail rides to get outdoors, unplug from technology, and spend quality time together enjoying nature.”
A Pryor alum herself, Kerr said the town’s close-knit feel is part of what keeps her invested. “I graduated from Pryor High School. Pryor has always been a welcoming small town where people feel safe, supported, and connected to the community.”
Her message to other parents is simple: get involved. “I would encourage all parents to get involved in the sports and activities their children participate in. Volunteering provides a unique perspective on the daily effort, dedication, and coordination required by coaches and schools to create these opportunities for our kids. Coaching takes a tremendous amount of time, energy, and personal sacrifice. Whenever parents can step in and help lighten the workload, it not only reduces stress for the coaches but also allows them to focus more of their attention on developing and supporting the team.”
