With a great start to the new season, the Pryor Tigers, under head coach Gerald Osborne, are taking on the rest of a tough schedule after a trip to Gulf Coast Classic over spring break.
Despite not getting the outcome they wanted at the Gulf Coast Classic, coach Osborne said those tough games on the road can help them back in Oklahoma.
“The Gulf Shores trip is tough, which can be a good thing. We saw a lot of good arms and good baseball in general. We hope that playing tough games in that environment will help prepare us for the tough schedule we will face over the next couple of weeks,” said Osborne.
In early March, the Tigers grabbed two quick wins over Booker T. Washington which started a seven-game winning streak heading into spring break. Coach Osborne said coming into the season that the Tigers are focused on getting back to the state tournament.
“The Tigers enter the 2025 season looking to get back to the state tournament. This year’s team will feature a lot of returning starters and good leadership,” said Osborne.
Several starters are having great years including Gavin Roberts (Jr.).
“Gavin is entering his junior year and has started at shortstop for Pryor since he was a freshman. He has a high baseball IQ and is a leader on and off the field. He is an excellent defender with a top of the order skill set at the plate,” Osborne said. “Roberts is 3-0 with a 1.65 ERA on the mound.”
Coach Osborne added, “Sergio Banuelos (Sr.) has had a good year offensively currently hitting .441, with 10 RBI. Treyce Crawford (So.) has been a bright spot hitting 9th and playing 2nd base hitting 364. Clinton Stohler (So.) has been handling the catching duties this year and has been solid behind the plate. Jaren Bailey (Jr.) has been solid on the mound as a reliever struck out 13 in 17 innings with a 2.06 era.”
A few familiar faces have stepped up to help the team this season and coach Osborne is excited to see what they can contribute to the overall success of the team.
“Seniors who could make an impact for the Tigers include Bryce Pathkiller, Chase Johnson and Talan Foster,” said Osborne.
Stohler (So.) is one of the pitchers in the rotation for the Tigers who is expected to be instrumental is helping the team in some big games. Also look for Banuelos to move around the field and play where the team needs him the most.
