Pryor’s Anna Raymond – Basketball Spotlight – Presented by Rhett Minson, State Farm

Pryor’s Anna Raymond

Known for her work ethic and her relentless pursuit to be a great basketball player, Pryor High School’s Anna Raymond is ready for her sophomore season of Lady Tiger basketball.

A post player for head coach Donnie Martin, Raymond started playing basketball when she was in elementary school.

“I started playing basketball in 5th grade but didn’t really start training until after my 7th grade season,” Raymond said. “My biggest strengths are defense and free throw shooting. I have been working hard to improve my three-point shooting for this season. So far it has paid off.”

Raymond believes in her teammates and the coaching staff at PHS.

“We have a great coaching staff that encourages us to not only succeed on the court but also in the classroom. We have great facilities and equipment, such as multiple Dr. Dish’s and two new practice gyms that will be finished in 2025. We also have strength and conditioning staff that work with us to help us succeed,” Raymond said. “After a rough 23-24 season, I have been impressed by our two transfers.  Senior Brynna Wiginton, and sophomore Tayla Vance. We also have five freshmen playing varsity who have helped us get off to a much better start this season.”

The sophomore is a true team player and is excited to see how far this group can go.

“I love how everyone is so encouraging to each other and how much effort and energy everyone gives, whether they are on the court or on the bench. I also love our team unity. No matter what class they are in, everyone is treated with respect,” said Raymond.

Also, a cheerleader for three years, Raymond said she laid down her pom poms for the volleyball.

“I had never played before, but I really enjoyed it. I will also be entering my second season of tennis this spring. Spring sports are hard for me though because that is when JYD club season starts, and I am fully devoted to that team as well.”
