When Payton Jackson of Pryor High School was in the third grade, she started playing softball, and by the age of 11, she knew softball was the sport for her.
Now a sophomore catcher for the Lady Tigers, Jackson said she is seeing a lot of positives from the team this year.
“Some positive things about this team are the overall attitude that everyone on the team has it’s a very welcoming atmosphere,” said Jackson.
Under the leadership of head coach Chell Looney, the Lady Tigers put 11-wins on the board to start the season before taking their first loss against one of the best teams in Oklahoma in Pocola. Jackson said everyone on the team is positive and focused.
“I like how positive everyone is and how when you’re down they lift you up. Everyone on the team also has a really goodworth ethic. My dream scenario would be to win state,” said Jackson.
As a player, Jackson said there are many reasons she loves being part of the PHS family.
“The coaches are very supportive when it comes to needing help in school,” said Jackson.
She points to her papa as someone who has always believed in her and pushed her to be the best she can be. Jackson is known for being competitive.
“I have always been pushed to be the best I can. Plus, I don’t like to lose,” Jackson said. “One of the people that has made a big impact in my life is my papa because he always believed in me.”
Away from the field, Jackson said she enjoys going to the lake with family and friends. Once her high school days come to an end, Jackson plans to attend college.
“My goal is to go to college play softball and become a pharmacist eventually,” said Jackson.
