Afton’s Zoey Mace
Afton’s slow pitch softball team is excited to take the field this season and Zoey Mace is looking forward to helping her team have a great year.
“I look forward to how much fun the season can be, and I can’t wait to get back to playing outfield. I’m so excited to get back to work with everyone,” Mace said. “We’re going to have a full roster with some familiar faces. This will be our first slow pitch season with our new coaches.”
Mace has worked hard to ensure she is prepared for the tough schedule.
“My strength is going to be the outfield. I cover ground and I’m not afraid to layout or get dirty to get the out. I’ve improved on my hitting. I work on it every day and have been diligently preparing,” Mace said. “This season will just come down to putting the pieces together and who will work for it.”
“ ”The team has several players ready to take the next step and take the program to another level. Mace said she’s found inspiration in her teammates, and several are expected to make big contributions this season.
“Lyndee Mikesell gave it her all on the field; always supporting everyone and the biggest hype person around. Avery Marshall was my go-to for a little boost; always a good mood to be around,” Mace said. “Cheyenne Frost was a current player that passed away this school year, she always reminds me to stay close to everyone and build those ties. Brynlee Victor is athletic, she’s sure to get the bat to the ball, along with Haily Ervin, both bound for a good season. We have a lot of talent all around this group. They’re set up to shine for sure.”
Now a junior, Mace will likely be a utility player for Afton and remain prepared to play anywhere the team needs her.
“The coaching staff at Afton right now is very supportive; they want to help. My mom is my biggest person. She’s always at my games and looks to better me. My brother helped me a lot in the cage. My travel coach, Nate Olinger is the king of hype. He sees the best in me and has high expectations,” Mace said. “Most importantly, the group of girls I play with. They hype me up and I love the close-knit bond I have with them; they keep me smiling. I work hard to meet expectations and expand the abilities people see in me, truly, they make me who I am.”
