Bluejacket High School’s Brent Chandler enters the football season with a physical style of play, a close connection to his teammates and a focus on helping the program build momentum.
Chandler fills several important roles for the Bluejacket football team. He plays linebacker, tight end and defensive end, giving the team a versatile presence on both sides of the ball. His favorite parts of the game fit naturally with those positions.
“Linebacker, tight end and defensive end. I enjoy these positions because I like to get the tackles and hit people without getting in trouble.”
That straightforward approach has shaped Chandler’s identity as a player. He considers hitting and tackling the strengths of his game, while also recognizing the next area of growth needed to become a more complete defender.
“My strength is hitting and tackling, and I need to improve on reading the plays.”
Bluejacket’s summer work has given Chandler another chance to develop those skills while building chemistry with a group he knows well. The relationships within the locker room are a central part of what makes representing Bluejacket meaningful to him.
“We all grew up together and are just like a bunch of brothers.”
Chandler sees a team eager to put in the work ahead of the upcoming season. The effort during workouts and spring football has left him encouraged about what the program can accomplish when the games begin.
“I like to show up and see my teammates and I putting in the effort for this upcoming season. I think we are going to have a good team this year. Can’t wait to play with this group.”
Off the field, Chandler draws inspiration from his father, whose support has extended beyond athletics. Whether the activity is sports, hunting or fishing, his father has remained a steady presence.
“My dad, he has always been there by my side. Rather it be sports, hunting or fishing.”
Chandler also appreciates the example set by teammate Colton Cochran, whom he views as a leader across Bluejacket athletics.
“Colton Cochran he is a great teammate and leader in all sports not just football.”
A multi-sport athlete, Chandler also competes as a baseball catcher and plays basketball. Those experiences complement the toughness, awareness and competitiveness he brings to football.
After learning the importance of staying healthy and committing more fully to the weight room last season, Chandler is determined to continue improving. His long-term goal is ambitious: He hopes to become an NFL player. For now, his attention remains on the coming season and the opportunity to compete alongside the teammates he considers brothers.
