Fairland’s Max Stephens
Junior guard Max Stephens has played the game of basketball since the age of five. Now one of Fairland High School’s go-to players, Stephens has made some moments on the court for the Owls.
“My favorite memory as a player for Fairland so far would be stepping on the court with my brother for the first time. It is such a blessing to be able to play this game with him,” said Stephens.
Always a team first player, Stephens said his teammates continue to impress him as they battle through a tough schedule.
“I would say the teammate that has impressed me the most is Carson. He is in the gym more than anybody I know, and every time I am in there he is working, and to have someone like that on your team really pushes you to be better,” Stephens said. “My teammate “Q” keeps everyone laughing, he is one of the funniest people I know. I think everyone on our team is serious when it’s time to work, but we all keep it pretty light otherwise.”
“ ”As for his own game, Stephens said his shooting continues to improve.
“The strength of my game in my opinion is my shooting ability. I’ve worked on it a lot to be as consistent as I can, and it has paid off. I feel like I have improved most on my handles,” said Stephens.
Being a student-athlete at FHS is something special for Stephens.
“I could talk all day about how great Fairland has been for me as a student athlete. They have a community of people there that are genuine and willing to come together to support each and every athlete and student,” Stephens said. “What I love most about my teammates is how we are all close on and off the court. It’s special to have a good bond all around with a whole team, and I think that helps us be as competitive as we are. I am also playing football and baseball, as well as running cross country and track.”
Stephens said to prepare for a game he leans on his faith, reads his Bible, and listens to music. The junior said his future plans are in God’s hands.
