Ketchum’s CJ Weeks
Ketchum High School’s CJ Weeks qualified as a freshman in the two-mile relay team that placed fourth at state in 2022. In 2023 he qualified in four events at state and followed that up in 2024 by qualifying in three events. Head coach Cecil Weeks said the goal this season is to finish strong and find the top of the podium.
“His senior year he plans on getting on top of the podium somewhere somehow! He plans on working harder than ever to get there. He has set six school records in the 400, 800, the mile, 4×100, 4×200 and the 4×800. As his coach, can’t wait to see what he does his senior year.”
CJ started competing in track when he was in the fourth grade. Coming into this season, CJ said he is focused and ready to make the most of every run.
“Breaking the most records at our school and going to state is what I look forward to the most this season. I have really good endurance, and I have to get better at my start,” said CJ.
His teammates, both new and old, play an important role in that success and CJ said several of them have left a lasting impression.
“Cooper Chandler, he has reminded me of me when I was a freshman. Logan Beisly, he always has a good time,” CJ said. “Every coach really wants you to succeed, and they give you every opportunity they can to get you to succeed. They all are very supportive.”
His inspiration comes from his faith, which he uses to help focus himself before competing.
“God, He inspires me to build my team and everyone around me, because in the long run, we are all on the same team,” said CJ.
Once his running days come to an end, CJ plans to attend college and pursue a degree in aircraft engineering. But before he trades the cleats for aircraft schematics, CJ will compete in numerous events for KHS.
“I have competed in the 200, 400, 800,1-mile, 2-mile, 4×100, 4×200, 4×400, 4×800. But this year I will do mainly the 400, and rotate my other events,” said CJ.
