Miami Cheer
When the varsity cheerleaders start their workouts and practice, the school year is yet to get underway. Countless hours are spent on the routines as they mentally and physically prepare for the season.
For Miami High School’s cheer team and head coach Ashley Moreno, this season was more than just another year on the sidelines. A trip to the state cheer competition confirmed their hard work paid off.
“I have most enjoyed watching the girls come together as a team and believe in their own talent. They overcame numerous challenges throughout the entire season, and they have faced every challenge head on,” Moreno said. “I am most proud of the team for making it to State.”
Several team members have enjoyed some post season honors and coach Moreno said the senior group that includes Aubrey Bunch, Gabriela Jaime, Bailey McCarty, Addy Payne, Corinne Wall have left an impression on the team for the future Miami cheerleaders to follow.
“ ”“We did not have captains. Addy Payne made the Oklahoma All-Region cheer team and tried out for the All-State cheer team,” said Moreno.
The team will finish football season and move into the gym for basketball season.
“We will stay busy the rest of the year with basketball, and we plan to build for next season. We will focus on working tumbling skills and more difficult stunts,” said Moreno.
