Success comes to those who put in the work and buy in to what the coach is selling. That’s exactly what you have in Miami. Head coach Rodney Sooter continues to rebuild the Wardog basketball program and coming into the new season, he is optimistic about the state of the program.
“Won eight games last year after winning seven total the previous two years combined. Returning three starters from last year and adding significant depth and talent from younger classes. Will have a good mix of experience and youth. We anticipate continuing to improve and take another step forward in the rebuild of the program,” said Sooter.
VYPE Top 100 selectee Waike Roblyer (6-7, Jr.) led the team in scoring and rebounding as a sophomore. He was also named first team All-Conference. Roblyer has continued to work on his game over the summer and is looking like a dominant player in the paint.
“ ”“He’s a post player but has grown his game over the summer to extend his shooting range and ball handling on the perimeter,” said Sooter.
Combo guard Colton Oelke (6-3, Sr.) can hit from the outside and is comfortable penetrating with the ball in his hands. His play is crucial for the offense as a floor General for the Wardogs. Blake Sooter (Sr.) has excellent range at shooting guard. Looks for Sooter to increase his output this season.
A pair of freshmen in Beckett Sooter and Lane Walther are expected to make an impact this season. Beckett Sooter will play point guard and brings a high basketball IQ to the floor with excellent perimeter shooting, while Walther is another guard who can score in bunches. Walther has the potential to be a lights-out shooter from three-point land.
Look for this team to continue their upward trajectory as coach Sooter and the Wardogs embrace a challenging schedule in 2024-25.
