Miami’s Levi Sumagpang
Wrestlers have a different mentality than any other student-athlete in high school. Most start their wrestling journey at a young age, while some do enter the sport as an older student. For Miami High School’s Levi Sumagpang, wrestling started in elementary school, and it’s become a passion for the now sophomore.
Wrestling at 113-pounds this season, Sumagpang said he started wrestling in the sixth grade. He believes his passion for the sport is his strength. His work ethic has helped him rise to a new level.
“My passion for wrestling is the strength of my skill set. I’ve improved on my stamina this season as well,” said Sumagpang.
“ ”Sumagpang said his coaches are a big reason why he continues to improve, and they help make MHS a great place to be a student-athlete.
“The coaches make the sports at MHS what they are,” said Sumagpang.
As a member of the varsity team, the sophomore said there are many reasons why he loves being part of the team. From his teammates to the road trips, but a member of the team is special for Sumagpang.
“I love the hotel trips and teammates like Dillon Blundell who keeps us all laughing the most and Hayden Miller is the most serious. What I love most about my teammates is they all have their own personalities,” said Sumagpang.
Sumagpang said one teammate has really impressed him this season.
“Bow Rush has impressed me this season. Last season he went like 1-17, this season he is 11-2.”
The goal for Sumagpang is to wrestle at the next level. “My goal for life after high school is to try to get a full ride for wrestling and go to college,” said Sumagpang.
