Q&A with Quapaw’s Talan Richardson – Softball Spotlight – Presented by Jim Rexwinkle State Farm Insurance

Talan Richardson

Quapaw High School

VYPE: What year are you, what sport(s) do you play and are you involved with any other activities?

Talan Richardson: I am a 2026. I play softball, basketball and I do track and cheer.

VYPE: What’s the first thing everybody should know about Talan Richardson?

TR: I might be small, but I’m tough and love playing the game of softball. People say I’m a natural leader and I always have a smile on my face!

VYPE: Your coaches have complimented your ability to play in multiple spots. Why is it important to be versatile?

TR: I think it is very important to be versatile, so you have more opportunities to play the game you love! I play third base shortstop, outfield, and catcher. I can play pretty much anywhere the coaches need me to play.

VYPE: How long have you been playing softball and who introduced you to the sport?

TR: I have been playing softball ever since I could walk and my father, Micheal Richardson, and my aunt, CorissaMillard, were my first coaches.

VYPE: What is your favorite memory you’ve made playing softball so far?

TR: I have so many favorite memories of playing softball and most of them are with my teammates and us being on the field and just having fun singing doing random stuff being silly but being able to get down to business when it comes time while we’re playing and we just have such good energy, but I would say my favorite one is our very first game for the Quapaw Wildcats. We came out there to play and we had such good energy, and we were on top hitting the ball and it was just amazing, and this girl pops up a bunt by the first base line and I was playing third — I was running as hard as I could, and I just dove and I caught it! It was so amazing and the energy that came from my teammates after that was even more amazing!

VYPE: What are your goals for this season?

TR: My goals for the season is to play as hard as I can and give everything I got for my teammates and coaches, and to be a good leader. I want the girls to be able to look up to me and come up to me and ask me questions, not be scared of me.

VYPE: How do you balance such a busy sports schedule? Does it become overwhelming?

TR: You just have to go with the flow. Yes it gets overwhelming sometimes but you just gotta push through.

VYPE: What are your goals and plans after high school?

TR: One of my goals is to go on and play college softball and to become successful and to just have fun.

VYPE: What’s your dream vacation?

TR: I would say my dream vacation would be to the Bahamas or somewhere really tropical where you can lay in the sun all day and just relax.
