It’s a new era for the Lady Cats of Quapaw High School, with new head coach in Nikki Daugherty. For the last 13 years coach Daugherty has coached middle school and homeschool teams, but this is her first season at the varsity level.
She takes over a Lady Cat program that features several key returning players. Katie Wray (Sr.), a multi-sport athlete, has started since her sophomore season and is looking to make her final season on the court her best.
“She is tough defensively and her speed is a huge asset to the team. She will run the point this year,” said coach Daugherty.
Another standout making her return is Daya Boman (Jr.). Boman continues to make huge contributions to the overall success of the team and is expected to have a great season.
“ ”“Daya will be instrumental on defense because she is fast and long,” said Daugherty.
Lydia Daugherty (Sr.) and Averi Attocknie (Sr.) will make an impact this season thanks to their ability to shoot and work without the ball.
“Lydia can play inside as well as step out and hit a three. She brings a lot of basketball IQ to the floor. Averi is a shooting guard. She can get hot from the three-point line,” said Daugherty.
With a few pieces of the puzzle in place, coach Daugherty is looking for a few underclassmen to step up and play quality minutes for the Lady Cats this season.
“Overall, we are inexperienced, and they are adjusting to a different style of coaching and play. They are very hardworking and coachable, so once we settle in and get a few games under our belt, we will be able to compete,” said Daugherty.
