Quapaw’s Daya Boman
By Elizabeth Contreras
Daya Boman is a senior at Quapaw High School and serves as starting shortstop on the varsity softball team. Boman has played softball since she was six years old and says her parents have supported her along the way.
“My mom and dad are huge influences in my life,” Daya says. “They push me to be the best that I can be, and I wouldn’t be the player I am without them.”
Boman has created countless friendships throughout her years on the team.
“My most memorable moment in softball was my first ever Quapaw softball practice and meeting the people I will have lifelong friendships with,” reflects Boman.
The strong bond she shares with her teammates is something she values deeply.
“We have a very strong sisterhood on our team, and we all get along really well,” she shares.
Boman believes that having confidence is key and focuses on having a positive mindset before games.
“I think positively to try to get my confidence built up before the game,” she explains.
Boman’s confidence was put to the test early on in her student-athlete career.
“My freshman year, I had a terrible batting slump, but I kept working hard, hitting off the tee, and really focusing on batting drills until I came out of the slump later in the season when I hit my first home run,” she adds.
It is in those moments of adversity that she finds success in setbacks.
“The excitement and love for the game is what drives me and keeps me coming back,” says Boman.
Through softball, Boman has learned that leadership is about positivity and encouragement.
“It has taught me to be a leader and how to pick my teammates up when they are down.”
Boman’s goal this season is to earn All-State, an accomplishment she is working diligently towards every day as she focuses on improving her stats. After high school, she plans to attend college and further her education.
As her senior season continues, Boman is focused on enjoying every moment with her teammates and making the most of her final year on the field. Softball has given her confidence, leadership, and lifelong friendships, and she’s grateful for all the lessons the game has taught her along the way.
