Verdigris Girls Soccer
Head coach Stacy Risenhoover enters her 19th seasons at the helm of the girls’ soccer program at Verdigris High School. Every season offers its own set of challenges, but coach Risenhoover has seen it all and having a team on the younger side is a challenge she is ready to handle.
“We are a young team with three seniors and one junior, but our sophomore class is strong with 10 and looking forward to the four freshman coming. We look forward to watching this team grow during the season and are excited about the result of all their hard work and dedication. This is an amazing group of young ladies with great leadership! Anticipating a successful year,” said coach Risenhoover.
Bella Floyd (Sr.) is one of the senior leaders on the team and someone who brings experience and a solid work ethic to the field for the Lady Cardinals. For the last two seasons, Floyd has played sweeper and is known for being a resilient player.
“ ”Marin Fink (So.) had a big impact as a freshman last season with 10 goals and 11 assists. Coach Risenhoover said Fink is a tireless player who gives total effort for the entire game. Fink is an outstanding leader and someone her teammates can count on.
Another sophomore looking to make an impact this season is Averie Deegan (So.). Always an offensive threat, Deegan scored 23 goals with five assists last year as a freshman. Deegan brings many skills to the pitch and coach Risenhoover said she is “very tactical, has great sight and finishes well.”
Also look for Lizzie Garza (So.) who brings speed and an impressive work ethic, on and off the field. Garza will make a positive impact on the team and play an important role this season.
The season gets underway on February 22nd when the Cardinals travel to Tahlequah. The first home match is set for February 25th versus Bristow. Post-season play begins May 5th.
